if i right click one of my drives on the server or any XP machine the properties come back like so

this drive is mapped through the server as drive P, the local drive on the server itself is E.

XP machine

used space 633 GB

free space 50.5 GB

Server (same)

used space 633 GB

free space 50.5 GB

If i go to the local drive on the server which is E i get the same results. but if i go into the E drive on the server there are 2 folders 1, projects which is shared as the P: drive. the other restore which is empty. if i go inside the sharded folder and select everything and get the properties i get back the size as 564 GB. i can't find where the other 70 gigs is being used on the drive. are there any settings that would be set on the drive or folder that would be using this space but not showing me?

if i check it through file server manager i get the same as above 683 capacity, 50.5 free space.

thanks

JC

No, but if you don't need to use the VSS components, you can get back a good deal of hard disk space by going to the properties of the drive and disabling the Shadow Copies from the Shadow Copies tab.
