hellasnow Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 (edited) if i right click one of my drives on the server or any XP machine the properties come back like sothis drive is mapped through the server as drive P, the local drive on the server itself is E.XP machineused space 633 GBfree space 50.5 GBServer (same)used space 633 GBfree space 50.5 GBIf i go to the local drive on the server which is E i get the same results. but if i go into the E drive on the server there are 2 folders 1, projects which is shared as the P: drive. the other restore which is empty. if i go inside the sharded folder and select everything and get the properties i get back the size as 564 GB. i can't find where the other 70 gigs is being used on the drive. are there any settings that would be set on the drive or folder that would be using this space but not showing me?if i check it through file server manager i get the same as above 683 capacity, 50.5 free space.thanksJCafter further investigation i think i've found my answer.shadow copies. now i just need to readup on that.sorry for the early post should have looked further first.any heads up maybe that i should know about or look out for?thanks Edited December 14, 2006 by hellasnow
cluberti Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 No, but if you don't need to use the VSS components, you can get back a good deal of hard disk space by going to the properties of the drive and disabling the Shadow Copies from the Shadow Copies tab.
