AVG Interney Security help

Ok, I downloaded the trial version of it and I think its a decent software. Every time I boot up my computer and when it launches AVG into the background, it always automatically scan my computer, therefore it increases bootup time and makes everything slow. I tried looking for an option to disable it but I can't seem to find any. Is there a way to disable it? I find it annoying.
