wuttuptae Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I'm looking for a way to connect to the console session on my Windows Server 2003 machine and disconnect from the session without locking (CTRL-ALT-DEL login) the session. Is this possible? The reason is I use my Windows Server 2003 machine as also my "Media Center" ... so I usually have music playing with visuals going on that are displayed on my TV. I like using my laptop to remote connect to the server and change playlists, etc.. but when I disconnect from the console session, it locks the session so that I now have to unlock the session from the local keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
jcarle Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Best thing to do, don't log in to your console session. AFAIK, you cannot login to the console session and prevent it from locking because the "screen" can only be shown to one user at a time, locally or remotely.Instead, I think you should try to find a way to control windows media player remotely.
cluberti Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Jcarle is absolutely correct. If you want to connect to the console session without locking the actual console, you'll need to use something other than RDP via mstsc - consider another remote desktop solution, like VNC, if this is your ultimate goal.
