Make IE remember not asking for playing videos

...even when I uncheck the "Ask again" so I expect the choosen action "stick".

And yep, I want open these in my BSplayer. Just w/o the **** questions. For start, let's take these video types:

ASF

AVI

WMV

MPG

MPEG

RM

RAM

MOV

From these, the ASF, AVI, MPG and MPEG keep bugging me by asking what to do when I click on them by direct link. IE 6 used, on Win2000, but that should not be much related... Same stuff in XP, IIRC.

IIRC I managed to get around the MPG/MPEG problem in XP by unchecking the "confirm opening after download" in filetypes settings. It was unchecked for all these problematic filetypes ASF, AVI, MPG and MPEG yet even checking this option back it did not change nothing.

But when unchecked, I would expect opening w/o asking.

Why IE 6 (not any updates used) keep bugging me?!

Anyone got a clue how to KILL THAT?

Heheh, been there, done that already looong time ago. No change of behaviour

But surprisingly, playing an WMV video in Windows Media Player 9 make change there - IE not any longer asking me about ASF files

That narrow the list down to AVI, MPG and MPEG only ... so, what happen, if I play avi and mpg/mpeg files in the Windows Media Player 9 too...?

No change yet, but I close all IE windows just to be sure...

If, even after going through and specifying what program to use, it's not sticking, perhaps running regmon on the machine while making the change in IE will show you which key is (or is not) being updated. I can't think of any other reason than you're either not writing the data to the registry, or IE is unable to read it.

Luckily, the change IS sticky - ASF is not a problem anymore. After reboot, power off and everything

So, let's concentrate on the mpg/mpeg and avi filetypes only

And runing regmon is nice idea, but only if the change (open w/o asking) stick at least untill I close the window. It does not get remembered even for next click in same IE window on same link...

Right, but if you run a regmon, do you see the value being set when you click the "remember" box? And do you see it being read when you attempt to open a file? Regmon should show us this...

Yes, it does. For what is worth, just running the regmon and IE and just starting the capture before clicking on the link, unchecking the requester "ask again" and closing the BSplayer ASAP the movie is playing it generated mere 1.3MB log...

As I'm no expert in registers, but to me it looks like that if in the MIME settings the avi (mpg and mpeg) filetypes get properly defined, it should fix this annoing problem.

Just injecting by .reg file the need infos. But who is skilled enought to make that?

So, back to the topic - anyone is getting any idea, how to stop M$ Explorer from asking me about mpeg/avi videos what I want to do with them, when clicked on their direct link?
