aspineux Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 (edited) Hello I used nLite for the first time 1 week ago, I give you here my feeling about it.I hope this report will convince some new user to use nLite and help developers to improve it.As location I set my CD Drive, but nLite asked me once more a location, and I specified a drive with some free space. nLite copied itself all the stuff from my Win XP CDROM to this second location. Wow !WHY not create a button "Create repository from Windows CDROM", to make this feature clearly available ?Then I patched with SP2, and gave no more update.I gave the VMware drivers (only the i386, I removed the 64bit one)I removed some useless stuff like : GamesInternet GamesPinballTourOut of Box Experience (this is a good idea to remove it) Then I set lot of tweaks I did'n got the installation I wanted and tunned the Unattended options a lot of time. (because I'm a little inexperienced with windows unattended installation)WHAT is not clear is than we have to specify the "Instalation" Username and Company name in the User tab as the Username and Company name of the Administrator !Finally I got the installation I wanted, but at first boot I got a strange and undesirable display effect: The selected item in the menu was in a light blue, invisible in my poor TFT screen !I finally found than I was using a custom theme, I came back to the Classic one and everything was fine.I never created or do something to have such a custom theme, or anything about theme, I selected the "classic" one from the beginning!I never was able to get the following tweaks working:Start menu Display small icon in start menu IE Favorite : DisableVisual Effects Active window tracking : Focuse on mouse Over Menu animation : DisableMaybe a bug somewhere or some incompatibilities with other stuff I selected! I have to setup them myself in the windows interface after the installation!nLite is a good tools, the interface is easy to use, and I didn't found anything missing.I give you my final configurations file in attachementOPS looking in my own configuration file I found a BUG,the word "style" is misspelled in the line :DesktopTheme = Windows Classic|Windows Classic stye|Normal I will try to fill in a bugBest regardsAlainOPS also I forgot : The timezone setup is not working, BUT everybody already know this is a windows BUGLAST_SESSION.INI Edited November 26, 2006 by aspineux
aspineux Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 OPS I forgot to say :All the components (applications) removed from the installation cannot be added latter. These components dont appears anymore in the selection process! This could be a good thing to show them in a "disabled" state in the selection process, just to know they were removed !They are also missing in the current configuration file !To know all the removed components, I have to look in all the previous configuration file I used as a base for the current on!This is also not useful for debugging!AlainBest regards?
nuhi Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Thanks for the report, going to take this into a consideration during 1.3 development.
rado354 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 (edited) Nice report WHAT is not clear is than we have to specify the "Instalation" Username and Company name in the User tab as the Username and Company name of the Administrator !This was reported time ago (by me?), maybe it could be easily fixed with a slight GUI modification or something.Tweaks not working...Yes, it's a bit of a lottery The timezone setup is not workingIt's working fine for me.
