Network and MSCONFIG difficulties with NLite OEM (compaq) XP Home SP2

Featured Replies

Hi! I installed a copy of XP Home OEM SP2 (HP Compaq, around nov. 2005), and am now wondering what is going on. I have added msconfig.exe to the keep box, and kept all services, and anything in red. I will be happy to post any config files you want. The problem is, that when I start the computer, networking doesn't work. I usually fix this with MSCONFIG, but when I run MSCONFIG, I get:

An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes.

I am logged on as an administrator though, so this is quite mysterious. To work around this annoyance, I used Services.msc to enable all services, but the Workstation and DHCP Client will not start up automatically, even when set to automatically. I am able to get the networking operating by using the PENETCFG included with BartPE.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't remove IE if you're using XP Home and want to use msconfig.
