Hey I'd like to try server 2k3 but I don't have a CD-rom drive on my PC since it broke. I have the server setup cd mounted onto a virtual drive with Daemon tools but when I try to go through install it complains that it can't continue because there's no cd drive detected. I'm running XP right now and would like to dual boot but I can't think of a solution here. thanks..

easy,

buy a CD drive

~30$USD from new egg

I was going to suggest the same... I'm surprised they're that expensive. Every week my usual hardware store has several decent DVD writers under 40$CDN (Samsung, LG and Pioneer currently). Even if it wasn't for installing, a PC without any kind of optical drive? That would really suck.

You could always get another CD drive, and that's probably the easiest solution. However, if that's not an option, you can always attempt an installation over the network from another machine sharing the CD source, you could use PXE boot if you have a network server (RIS on W2K3 or a Linux server with the source), etc. You could even partition the drive you are installing to and put the source on a secondary partition, and boot to a boot floppy or CD to do the installation.

Obviously another CD drive is the easiest way, but if you have another machine on your network, you do have options.
