video driver not cooperating

ok here is my problem i just refomated and reinstalled xp all the drivers needed to be installed and went in fine. the only one is for the video controler. my resolution is the same as before the reformat. i just dont have the right driver for this system that dell it orignally had. and when i do install the right adapter there is still a question mark in device manager and my system blinks off and on one time when i reboot. if anyone knows how i can use the right adpater and get rid of the blinking off and then on that would be great

It appears that the Inspiron 1xxx series came with an integrated Intel 915 adapter - Dell lists the A08 version (6.14.10.4609) from July listed as available, is that the one you are using? Also, you could try to get a driver for the 915GM chipset directly from Intel to see if that behaves any better than the A08 version from Dell.

I think "Mobile Intel® 915GM GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family" that works for dell inspiron 1300 would work for dell inspiron 1200, too.

I downloaded it from DELL site but I don't remember the link.

However, if it works for you, go to Display Properties and choose Monitor 1.
