fuligin Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Hey everyone, I have been having several problems with setting up a proper installation of XP on a thinkpad laptop. After various attempts i was finally able to get my battery driver to work on an old installation, however my i386 has compressed cabs, and i havent been able to undo that option. Now im im trying to make an updated version and i cant get the battery driver to show up at all on virtual pc and i still have the compression probelm even when i choose not to have it set by nlite. I also have to install my xp cd every time i try to install somthing new, which can be a problem when im on the road. I have been thinking of installing normal installation of bare xp full, then adding the service pack via normal installation and finally using xplite pro to clean all the undesired options, then manually disable several options that i can.Would this give me the same type of system that is set up by nlite customization. If anyone has any helpful options and ideas i would love to hear them. I really like nlite and the options it gives me, but is it that im not doing the right thing when instaling or what?Thank you in advance for ur help and support.
tap52384 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 (edited) Since your virtual pc does not have the same devices as your thinkpad, it won't be able to give you an accurate account if what you're doing isn't working, thus the results are inconclusive. nLite has the ability to integrate drivers into the installation media. If you are worried about missing functionality, simply use nLite without using components, simply to integrate and update the installation source, integrate hotfixes, addons, and even themes, and then other options like patching for 3rd party visual styles. What thinkpad do you have? If you have a pretty recent one (at least manufactored in 2002, I had a Thinkpad R31, I now have a Thinkpad R51, used nLite with both) then the IBM Software Installer should be able to help you if integrating the driver is not a concern of yours. Honestly, I do not have the battery driver integrated, but instead installing automatically during the first login after setup completes, but by creating an nLite addon, it's possible to have drivers install during the last stages of the XP setup installation.
