Is it worth it? Money is of no importance ... I'm considering to buy Win2k3 and use the MSFN guide to run it as my desktop / laptop OS. Or should I just go with Win XP Pro Sp2 and maybe wait for Vista... ?

I mostly use my PCs for school, research and work = 3D CAD, CFD applications, big numerical solvers, Office, Photoshop, Video, DVD.. .Every now and then I play some games.

Also, has anyone read / heard of uberPLAY's mod "Windows XP Workstation Premium" and whether it would be worth putting time into installing / creating something like his mod?

Not like a student can just disregard a 1000$ price tag (plus those of 3D CAD apps and others), and you're asking about installing some warez tweaked version of XP...
