I have an emachines computer and when I try to install windows 98se. I get a can't load user.exe, must reinstall windows. I am trying to load from cd, but to no avail. any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes it is. Computer is only a couple years old. Amd athlon xp 2.07. I've tried it by the unattended way and then just by putting in the windows 98 se cd. It runs xp wonderfully, I just would rather to have w98 on it.

Is there anything in the bios I need to change. I've tried to install 6 or 7 times thinking I done something wrong.

I have approx. 960 mb of ram memory. could that be the problem.

Search this forum for "maxfilecache" and look through those threads for the solution.
