I recently reinstalled Windows Server and applied a bunch of useful tweaks (attached) found in the unanttended part of this forum. Lately I've been noticing that Windows is shutting down way too fast. That in itself is nothing to complain about except all the applications I have left open don't have enought time to save their settings.

I tried scouring Google and every page I found had you navigate to the registry hive [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] and modify three keys: AutoEndTasks, HungAppTimeout, and WaitToKillAppTimeout.

My registry values:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]

AutoEndTasks = 0

HungAppTimeout = 5000

WaitToKillAppTimeout = 20000

These are the default. So now I'm stumped. Can anyone think of another place in the registry that will allow my computer to shut down so quickly?

Rename to RegSrchXP.vbs

Run this and type in Shutdown

Attach your file so I can compare

This is not for 9X Me and such unless you change TOP Line

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

to

REGEDIT4

You can add this, safe

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability]

"ShutdownDoStateSnapshot"=dword:00000002

I can't find anything on this IForceShutdown and I don't have but I have XP pro

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{4F05869A-686B-45B0-90B8-82707B9A8510}]

@="IForceShutdown"

Be curious to know whats in that full key

You have a CE device also with those clientshutdown.exe" entries. Did this start after that was installed or maybe Server Installs by default.

Changing my ShutdownTime made no difference here.

Did anyone ever find an answer for this? After restarting Windows, Opera browser has to recover when I start it again, and Nakka CLCL didn't save it's clips.
