Gaprofitt Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Hi All,The RIS has been working great on our server. All of a sudden now weare getting the error "Unable to create or modify computer account" errorwhen trying to install an RIS image. We rebooted the server recently soI am not sure what has happened. In DHCP the server is authorized andI am using a domain admin account, any suggestions? I've triedstopping and restarting the service. Thanks,Greg
Br4tt3 Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Hi!I assume u have tried running:risetup.exe /check....and also, I have personally seen where the DHCP UI tells u that RIS is authorized in the domain but when checking the Sites & Services console, enable NetServices from the View menu, then expand the Services object and then at u will find NetServices, u will not be able to find the IP address of the RIS box listed in there... I am not saying it is this, but check it!also, did u change the IP of the machine recently? is the machine multihomed? and is the RIS box creating the computer accounts in an OU other than Computers (which is a CN and not an OU)? sometimes I have gotten wiered messages when creating the accounts in other OU's and lacking permission to do so... (oh, u r domain admin.. guess not then!)but I can say I have seen this exact msg...
RogueSpear Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Try to reconcile your DHCP scopes. Also you may want to try logging in on the RIS client with a different user account when you begin the RIS install. I've seen it before where for some reason a user account gets temporarily locked out of initiating a RIS install until another accounts does one.
Mightyquinnsr Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 You will also get this message if you try to RIS a computer and the computer name is already in Active Directory. Use another name or delete the old account before RIS'ing the new computer. Also, after any changes to both the AD and the RIS image, do not forget to restart the RIS service (Stop\Start Binlsvc from the command line). This will also correct other errors you may be getting.Cheers
