b1lly Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Hi All!I have a few questions which I am hoping someone could answer for me.I will be running a website (adult) which may have many users on at one time, the server will be co-located and only I will have access to it locally and remotely.I am therefore wanting to know what "product" of Windows 2003 and MS SQL Server I should purchase as there are so many choices I do not know which one.I am only planning on running web, private ftp, remote access (for me only) and most likely lastly mail.I would appreciate any help!Alex
nitroshift Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 W2k3 server Web Edition will suffice. Why not running it on Linux?
b1lly Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 It is coded in ASP that is why! =)I did however pickup a rack server with Windows 2003 standard R2 for $750 AUD so I am pleased and SQL 2000 for not much more and as long as that runs it will be my only investment =)I am a Linux nut and prefer it, but my hand was twisted as I know the person very well and he is an excellent coder. Thanks for the advise, much appreciated!
janus zeal Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 (edited) I would get Windows 2003 standard, the web version has wierd restrictions on it. (like about installing SQL, or not being able to use more then 2 GB of ram. wth?)you can check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_2003 and here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003...refeatures.mspxi may be wrong, but i remember reading that ASP will work with apache and linux... idk, if i find the link i will post it. maybe it was lighttpd..*shrug* Edited August 21, 2006 by janus zeal
