mopster Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Hi I have recently installed Windows XP x64 for the first time. I have found drivers for peice of hardware and everything has worked perfectly. There is only one issue. I open a word document and my mouse goes weird.Mouse clicks become extremely laggy up to 10+ seconds if I click outside of an application. I guess that any click that would be directly responded to by Windows, such as explorer, clicking on the desktop, toolbar, ect lags. To change applications I have to either wait or alt + tab between applications. The mouse appears to work fine within an application, and if I close Word everything works fine again. I use Outlook 2003 for my emails and I have had no problems with that. I have tried:1. Patching Windows + Office2. Reinstalling Office 20033. Office XP (Same problem occured).4. Removing intellitype pro and intellipoint softare.5. Reinstalling the dot net 2.0 framework.6. Event viewer showed one dcom error which I have fixed. This has been occuring since installation and I could not identify the software that the GUID was associated with.7. Registry Mechanic8. Spyware checks ect ect while I was working out what happened. Something similar happened when copying files between two explorer windows before I patched but that hasn't happened since.I have checked and reinstalled everything that I can. The information that I have is that Office 2003 works fine on 64 bit Windows, so I am thinking my next mis-step might be a reinstallation of Windows, but I really don't want to have to do that if I can avoid it.Has anyone had a problem like this before and can help me out here?
mopster Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Ok I now have a work around, but I would still like to cure this problem if I can.Open word and create a new document. Open the existing document and copy it. Close the document and paste into the new document. I can now open that document and work on it with out any problems.
ripken204 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 so when word is open ur system gets laggy? or juse the mouse? very strange. is this a legal version of office? maybe u should try out openoffice.
mopster Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Just the mouse and just while the document is open. It happens with some of the documents I created myself, but not with other documents I have opened. The mouse move fine but click events take a while to come through, but only on things like explorer, or other operating system type operations like clicking on the toolbar to switch between apps. And yes all legal versions of the applications.I have just thought to try uninstalling end note, which is bibliography software. This adds a toolbar to Word and might be the cause of the issue. The uni I am doing my honours at makes it available, and I have installed version 9 for the first time. I'll try that after I get home from work tonight, and google for issues with that.
ripken204 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 try uninstalling all of office and doing a custom install of it where u only install word
mopster Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 Ahh endnote... the hours I lose to you make up almost a quarter of the time you save me...As soon as I uninstalled endnote the problem was gone.Thankyou for your help, now all I have to do is to find a solution to this problem and I can get my uni work done.
