I install it; collect hacked files; then reinstall'em unattendedly!

you mean uxtheme.dll?

or

exacly what hacked files ? ?

and how do i install'em ? ?

The files I collect are:

shell32.dll

*.cpl files from system32 folder

(I don't exactly know which *.cpl files are modified but you can copy all of them. These modify some of the GUI icons such as your tray icons for sound, network icon)

You may copy the theme files.

That's all I need to make it look like Vista.

It also modified explorer.exe and msmsg.exe (the outlook express file), but I stay away from these files. I don't want any foreign exe's in my system.

I collect these hacked files:

01- batmeter.dll

02- calc.exe

03- explorer.exe

04- iexplore.exe

05- main.cpl

06- moricons.dll

07- msgina.dll

08- mspaint.exe

09- mydocs.dll

10- notepad.exe

11- ntoskrnl.exe

12- nusrmgr.cpl

13- shell32.dll

Also, I edit these files for a VISTA boot screen:

1- ntkrnlmp.exe

2- ntkrnlpa.exe

3- ntkrpamp.exe

Plus, I extract SP1.cab, SP2.cab, and Driver.cab, then replace those 4 "krnl" files; and re-cab them again.

More, VISTA theme needs some modifications to give neat results.

Oh, and there's the VISTA.scr and VISTA.jpg, too.

All those mods above create a real fantastic GUI for my WinXP-SP2. I cannot afford looking back again to the default GUI.

However, there remains a single problem. A pic is attached!

@mazin

Thanks for your list!

FYI about moricons.dll. I don't think that file gets modified and the icons are the same old icons that were present in WINDOWS 3.1 (with maybe some new ones). But none of those icons are used anywhere in Windows.

@ spacesurfer

Thanks for the tip. That file was just monitored along with the others by InstallRite, so I used it.

BTW, do you know where the dialog in my pic, above, resides. explorer.exe?

I'm not sure but it seems to be a problem with explorer.exe, since explorer.exe controls the start menu and taskbar.

Try replacing your modified explorer.exe with your original (in safe mode or winpe) and see if that solves the problem.

Thank you very much.

I made some more editing for even my original explorer.exe!

It looks like I , accidentally, deleted those strings from the dialog!
