[Help] - Windows has problems starting up

Hi.

My problem is that windows acts really weird at times. When i restart the computer, sometimes it slows down/refuses to start at the desktop. I do not get any error - what i do get is is i do see the desktop wallpaper, but the icons or the start bar hasnt shown yet. A ctrl + alt + del and a restarting produces a window stating that explorer.exe doesnt seem to be responding. Force ending it produces a restart and the computer restarts subsequently.

The usual time where my computer starts up - around 45-1 min.

With this problem, i get into windows, but have never seen the icons/start bar (even after 5 mins of waiting)

My setup

AMD xp 2400+

199GHz

1.00 GB of Ram

Radeon 9600 Pro

Microsoft Windows XP

Home edition

SP 2

Software in system

Windows Live messenger

IE6

Norton Systemworks 06

I've got a hijack this log - i could post it if it would help.

45 minutes? I think you may have a hardware problem...

Or a virus that's slammin' the system. Try booting up w/o the network connected, or in safe mode, and run an AV scan. You do have AV installed, don't you?

Try hitting alt tab to see if any message box is hidden under the wallpaper. Apartfrom this the first thing I would try would be to boot into safe mode & remove Norton system works.
