Cannot UNINSTALL IE Beta 2

Featured Replies

I want to install IE Beta 3 on WinXP SP2 but, before doing so, I have to uninstall Beta 2. However, it will NOT let me uninstall it. I receive this message:

"Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 cannot be uninstalled from this user account. Please log on to the same user account from which it was installed and try again."

I think this problem is occurring because I had to completely recreate my Windows XP profile a fews weeks after installing Beta 2. Therefore, the profile I'm using to log into Windows is different than the one I used to install SP2 -- even though it's the "same" user account. How can I get around this problem to uninstall Beta 2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Click 'Run" and type 'regedit' from the Start menu

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft]Internet Explorer

Right click in the right pane of the 'Internet Explorer' key, choose 'new', and then 'DWORD value'

Enter 'InstalledByUser' as the name and hit 'Enter' to finish creating the

new register key. The data of the new DWORD should be 00000000.

note: value name is case sensitive, be sure to put the caps as indicated above.
