June 26, 200620 yr At the moment we use RIS (and emboot) to boot WinPE 2005 into RAM before initiating the unattended install by using a PE ISO along side the ntdetect.com, ntldr, startrom.com & winnt.sif files in the "templates" directory. When I try the same approach with Vista, it doesn't work (it loads the image into RAM and then throws an error "missing or error in txtsetup.sif" - or something similar). The same ISO file loads fine if I burn it to a CD. Any hints?TIA!
June 26, 200620 yr As far as I know, Pe2 can only be deployed through a Windows Deployment Server (WDS). Good news is WDS will reside along with the RIS server on the same system. BINLsvc becomes redundant which is a good thing.
June 27, 200620 yr Yupp....Gadget is right on... WDS will be able to deploy the .wim format, while the structure of the .iso can only be deployed from a CD/DVD (when using WinPE 2.0) cause of the new boot files featured in WinPE 2.0...
June 27, 200620 yr Author Of course - I think I may just stick with our current WinPE and run ImageX from within that, rather than doing a full unattended each time.
