Andy Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Hello everyone can somebody please give me some advise on using the Command Prompt . I am trying to slipstream XPsp1ato a Win XP cd, I have extracted the service pack to a folder but when I run the Command Prompt it defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\Andy> and willnot let me change it to the folder I extracted the fills to, I am not an expert on computers so any advise would be very helpfull. Thanks in advance
Aaron Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 go back to c:\cd\Go back to parent directorycd ..go to c:\winxp_cd\sp1\cd c:\winxp_cd\sp1\That's probably all you need to know to change directories.
Andy Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Thank you very much for your reply Aaron XP I found your tip very helpfull, but I seem to have come across another small problem in that the file in which I extracted the contents of the windows XP cd is set to read only. When I click on properties and uncheck read only and apply and then ok after a couple of seconds the file returns to read only again, any idea how I can get round this?I've already tried this in adminastritive mode but this did not work either.Any help would be much appreciated thanks.
Aaron Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 Go into the root of the directory where you copied your windows XP CD files. and type this in command prompt:attrib -r /S /D
Andy Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Thanks for the quick reply AaronXP just tried it but it didn't seem to work, I rebooted after it had finished but all files are still set to read only. Just spent a couple of hours searching the net for an answer but I didn't find one, although there seems to be alot of people with the same problem.....wounder if this is a bug in XP, anyway I'll try it on an old Win98 box I've got up in the loft somewhere but if you can think of anything else I'm willing to give it a go.
Corvette Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 And then to slipstream the SP, Go to the service pack directory and type at the prompt update.exe -s c:/(your windows XP cd directory on your drive)
