Systems recommendations for Enterprise solution

Hi all,

Can anybody help me by recommending possible solution systems to address a specific requirement for an enterprise solution we're building. Currently we're leaning towards custom, but to be thorough, we're looking at any existing systems that could help.

Here's the requirement:

We need a centralized (can be federated) system to administer (normal CRUD operations), and manage all operational parameter data in a heterogenous distributed architecture, via a single interface, which also has support for versioning and release management. That's the short version! :)

Here's a better (but longer description):

Take the above description and add the following clarifications.

  • Heterogenous distributed architecture means a system made up of other, unrelated subsystems, each with their own techonology bases and each playing a specific role in the overall system.
  • Operational parameter data means configuration and system settings used by the subsystems for operational input, which affects the subsystems's functionality in any number of ways. An example could be the administrator email address for subsystem A, or maybe a maximum record setting for subsystem B
  • Versioning means that the solution should be able to keep a history of all parameter changes, and have the ability to deploy or rollout any previous version of parameter data on demand. Archiving of historical data would also be nice.
  • Release management means that data change should be able to have an associated state, like Testing for example, and know which parameter version and its state resides on which (presumably) known subsystem.
  • Aditionally, their needs to be security of course and definately auditing.

I'm not asking for much, I know... :D Does anybody know of any product or system that has some or all of these capabilities. We've looked at CMDB systems, but they are mainly concerned for configuration data for hardware, network and operational systems, like the OS and services (IIS, MSMQ, etc). They fall short on certain aspects mentioned above.

Great. Looking forward to your replies! Thanks,

Charl Marais
