mars_army Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 (edited) So I'm a real newbie to the whole custom Windows setup disc thing, and so far it seems great if not for the odd techniques required for some things to work. For exmaple, I'm going to reinstall Windows on my laptop using an nLite disc and everything.I would like to include on this disc the drivers from my laptop's driver disc that came with the laptop. There are actually updated drivers from the HP website, but I don't even know where to begin with those. They come in .exe format, and when viewed through Winrar they contain all sort of files. Just the ATI one alone (which is not the Catalyst drivers, it is the HP released driver) has an assortment of files and I have no idea which ones I actually need.Is there an even easier guide available for people who aren't even ready for the guides listed in this forum? Because these guides seem to assume you know which files and ini's you need to include. I don't even know where to begin. Edited June 3, 2006 by mars_army
Br4tt3 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Some things to check for:1. The actual driver files, .inf, .sys, .cat are most certainly always available when extracting the driver(s)2. The application that supports the device.. .exe, .dll, .ini and so on are often bundled when downloading a new driver.Normally u just download a driver and have it extracted to a temp dir from which can scoop the drivers later on. Normally acchieved using a switch on the .exe (mydriver.exe -x c:\my_temp_dir) something like that...or having winzip or winrar installed would give u the opportunity to extract them as well.Or just run the .exe file normally, and the files will be present within c:\windows\temp or ur profile temp dir.
que va je faire Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) but which file do i have to include in the xp cd?4 ex: this is the content of exe audigy driver'swhich file do i have to include? all in the same directory? Edited June 19, 2006 by que va je faire
DL. Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Most of your drivers are probably included in BTS:s DriverPacks.Check out that site...It's a lot easier to use those packs than to try adding the drivers manually on your own.The topic title is named incorrectly, read the Forum rules before posting.
que va je faire Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 those packs are up to date? instead of adding 500 mb of useless drivers, if i add all of those file extracted from the exe, it will work too?
DL. Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 @que va je faire:You don't have to use all of the driverpacks, just use the ones that support your hardware. The packs are updated more or less regularly (when a few new drivers have been released).Have you read through the entire MSFN Unattended Guide? And more specifically the part about drivers.
que va je faire Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 ah ok thanks 4 your help, i read the guide but i miss those info im enquiring about
