laser21 Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Hi, Ive got a notebook, which came originally with WIN XP Pro, but there was no installation CD included. Just a repair disk. I want to do a clean reinstall, not only "repair". I dont want to just download an illegal copy, which is so easy , so I wonder, if anybody here has a solution. The product key sticker is on the lower side of the notebook. So I thought about using a illegal copy with that product key...would it work? Im desperate -microsoft makes it so hard for people who own legally their software, that its easier with illegal! Terrible. Thanks in forward
vinodh Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Firstly, discussing illegal disks, etc is not allowed. Second, the repair disk should actually be a recovery disk. i.e. it sould restore your laptop to the state it was when you bought it. This means its the same as a clean install. Main difference is that all your drivers, certain apps and utils will already be installed. Thats how it works with my laptop, anyway.
T D Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 No it wouldn't work. Well there is a way but I'm keeping my mouth shut.To unattend a repair disk, you can't. You can make a batch file on another cd with all apps, tweaks, service packs hotfixes etc installed unattendedly. Some repair disks are in the standard windows format (ie dirs SUPPORT, VALUEADD, I386 or AMD64 exist) and you should be able to customize them.
Zxian Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 The best way to get a CD is to contact your computer manufacturer and request an installation CD. They might charge you a small fee, but if you want to stay legit, this is pretty much what you have to do.
laser21 Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 Zxian, I figured that...I made quiet a research and ended up with that solution... Thanks, thread can be closed...
