blaze one Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I have been trying to install windows xp pro on a laptop I purchased . HP900mhz AMD duron256mb Ram40GB HD - NewAntivirus/adware/spyware programs installedWhen I purchased it used , I wanted to do a clean install of winxp . So I did , with no problems . Then after about a week , it started to become unstable and would " HANG" for 5-10 mins at a time when using ITUNES or Outlook etc . I don't use it for anything else . So I decided that maybe I should do a clean install again and see if that can help things . Well now I can't get past a certain point during install - and the computer wont start winxp by itself any more because it says there is a Corrupt or missing file which is <windowsroot>\system32\ntoskrnl.exeAnd when I try a clean istall , I get a screen popping up saying Setup cannot create folder:window\debug\usermodeSetup cannot contiue please retry or exit setup . LLXX Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Are you sure the hard drive is working properly? Both symptoms you described point to filesystem corruption.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I second that your HD is most likely fubard.
T D Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 If you can get your hands on a Windows 98 Emergency Startup Disk ( http://bootdisk.com/ ) then try fdisk to remove the entire partition.I second that your HD is most likely fubard.I third that.
