[Help] Setup Cannot Create Folder during Setup

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to install windows xp pro on a laptop I purchased .

HP

900mhz AMD duron

256mb Ram

40GB HD - New

Antivirus/adware/spyware programs installed

When I purchased it used , I wanted to do a clean install of winxp . So I did , with no problems . Then after about a week , it started to become unstable and would " HANG" for 5-10 mins at a time when using ITUNES or Outlook etc . I don't use it for anything else .

So I decided that maybe I should do a clean install again and see if that can help things .

Well now I can't get past a certain point during install - and the computer wont start winxp by itself any more because it says there is a Corrupt or missing file which is <windowsroot>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

And when I try a clean istall , I get a screen popping up saying

Setup cannot create folder:window\debug\usermode

Setup cannot contiue please retry or exit setup .

Are you sure the hard drive is working properly? Both symptoms you described point to filesystem corruption.
