Noise
There's a new new technet article on Preserving OEM Pre-Activation when Re-installing Windows XP.This is a short to-the-point article that I'm sure many people will find useful.Edit: Actually this article is kind of old. But was just reciently published on technet. Edited May 16, 2006 by Nois3

Bezalel
These keys were released for computers built before Feb 2005 that have SLP media without a factory key.
civil_e
I hate to bother either of you, but my problem is similar..........ONLY WORSE. I didn't know about the SLP in the BIOS business when I formatted my hard drive on my Sony VAIO laptop. I bought it in January, VGN FS750P/W. I had partitioned my hard drive (NTFS) prior to formatting it, and copied a GHost 2003 image of c:\ to this second partition. Only I can't figure out how to get BACK THERE TO DROP THE IMAGE. I don't have a floppy disk drive, and every solution I've found entails some recovery "floppy" disk. Does anyone have ANY idea how to fix this mess I've gotten myself into? This is my work laptop and I would LOVE to wriggle out of this mess. CRAP.
LLXX
If you don't have a floppy drive, get one.
