eltee
On a location there is one IP subnet and one DHCP server but different kinds of RIS servers. For example 2 company's share a network for common type of servers like PDC DHCP and so on, but the do not want to share RIS images. So when a client is to be setup one must be able to choose a ris (preferred) RIS server.Another example is that there are different RIS servers with different system administrators each in charge over there one RIS images. Fo example one is doing research and the other operations.Anyway examples enough, but is there a solution? Can anybody provide a solution? The questionCan you in any type of manner (without looping by rebooting through the RIS selection process until the right RIS server is shown) give a preferred RIS server in the BOOTP process?Mabybe with a floppy or something?Does anybody knows the answer? thanksJHoD
cluberti
You can do it with DHCP options, but that'll require you to chop up the network a bit so that only the right IP range (and thus the right range options) go to specific machines.
icarus
In active directory, if you Prestage the computer (create computer account) and check this is a Managed Computer, enter the GUID for that machine which you will need to jot down after making the initial pxe connection. You will need to pause here to write it down. Once the copmuter account is created with the GUID entered you will have a remote install tab, here you can either enter or browse to your preffered RIS server.Icarus
