ceemjay Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I have just upgraded from 98SE to XP Home and am now trying to get additional hardware drivers installed especially the ADSL modem for AOL. While trying to install the drivers for BT Voyager 105 modem the system crashed. On rebooting CHKDSK ran and claimed there was an error with the folder INFCACHE.1 and turned it into a file!Tried to install again and the crash happened but this time CHKDSK reported loads (100's) of errors on *.INF or *.PNF files in WINDOWS\INF.1. Should I be worrying about either of these things? 2. Is there a way to correct them if they are important?ThanksClive
Xable Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Can`t say if you should be worried but, upgrades can be messy; After i upgraded from 98SE to XP i had loadz of weired problems, in the end i backed up my files, wiped the disc clean and re-installed a full copy of xp. Everything then worked like a dream not to mention the extra space gain.If i was you i would format the disc and install a fresh copy of xp.Good Luck.
