Windows XP fax issue

I went to send a fax the other day and it locked up my pc hard. Ctrl-Alt-Del would not function. I had to reboot using the power button. After I rebooted, I uninstalled fax and reinstalled it. Then it answered on 2 rings even though it is set to manual answer. I uninstalled fax and now when I call my home phone, fax picks up in two rings ! UGH. How do I fix this ? Fax IS NOT installed on my system and I am getting a fax answering in 2 rings...obviously some fax components were not removed completely...help !

how did you uninstall? from add/remove windows components?

check your services since fax runs as a service. ify you see it, remove it.
