imanwil Posted April 10, 2006 Share Posted April 10, 2006 the internet on my my laptop wont work any more, its plugged in through a ethernet adapterip, dns are all there but its not sending or recieving/the internet isnt getting to any of the programs (eg IE)it did this to me before and i just did a system restore and it worked again but that wont work now please help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cconk01 Posted April 10, 2006 Share Posted April 10, 2006 (edited) You need to check and make sure you have TCP/IP enabled.Try restarting the hub and modem. Make sure you dont have some firewall blocking you aswellalso make sure you havent changes some settings to IE like proxy settings unless you know you are using a proxy server... cluberti Posted April 10, 2006 Share Posted April 10, 2006 Try opening a command prompt, and typing the following commands, in order:ping www.google.comtelnet www.google.com 80You should get a ping response from www.google.com, you should get a blank command prompt screen after about 10 seconds (or less) when using the telnet command. If either fail, you'll have more of an idea of where the problem lies.1. If ping can't find the host, it's DNS2. If ping fails, the packets are likely not making it to the host (for whatever reason) pointing to a firewall or router issue3. If telnet doesn't work, you can't get out on port 80 and it's almost always a firewall issue.You get through both steps and everything appears to be working, then it's more an issue with the browser, as everything is working on the TCP/IP stack.
