Arrow_Runner Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 (edited) I just picked up a few computers and I'm using 2k3 RIS to load an OS onto them. My server is bogging down a little doing three at a time.Is there any way I can set up RIS on more that one computer to load balance between the servers? Edited April 1, 2006 by Arrow_Runner
nmX.Memnoch Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Is it a network or a hard drive throughput issue? If it's network you could multihome the server and then enable/setup Network Local Balancing. To be honest I've only ever used Intel's version of this for teaming adapters under Windows 2000 Server, but from what I understand the functionality built into Windows Server 2003 is the same.
Arrow_Runner Posted April 1, 2006 Author Posted April 1, 2006 It is a hard drive throughput issue, I need a good PATA controller card, What exactly does multi-home the server mean? Thanks.
fizban2 Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 What you need is a good SCSI card, PATA is gonna kill you no matter what card you get... Find a good SCSI card and drive, it would be worth the money, or if money is an issue, SATA II card with a WD raptor... but SCSI would be best
nmX.Memnoch Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 What exactly does multi-home the server mean?Put more than one network controller in the server.
cluberti Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Teaming is when you put two or more NICs in the server, and use special "teaming" software (the vendor must provide the software) to make the NICs in the machine appear as one. You'll also need L3 switches that the servers are attached to for this to work properly as well, however.
