Julia
I think I have lost all my emails. I have Microsoft Entourage on my company Mac, and today it froze. So I closed the application and reopened it, and it came up with "Entourage can not access your data, to attempt to fix the problem rebuild your database." I tried to rebuild it and it says "rebuild failed error read and write -40. Your database has not been rebuilt and it's unlikley it can be repaired."So tell me - is it all lost? all over? I have lost all my mail and contacts and everything???This can't be happening. And before you ask about back up - no it was never backed up, it only had the temp folder on my hard drive which doesn't open. Our IT guy did it this way.Can anyone shed some light on what I could do?Thanks,Jules
EchoNoise
Well, you don't have to post it twice thats for sure...I'm not too sure about where MSE stores its mail database, is it possible to create a dummy e-mail account where you can see where it gets stored, and then try and rename the database to the dummy one...It works with Outlook...I've never used Entourage, hope it helps... If it doesn't, oh well... I tried
Ghostrider
I haven't used Entourage so I don't know if you have a local copy or logging into exchange which would mean the email would still be on the server.... try these links they may have some helpful info..http://www.entourage.mvps.org/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Entourage andhttp://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/ento...d=entourage2004This one might have more precise info about your problemhttp://www.entourage.mvps.org/user/xfile1.html Edited March 28, 2006 by Ghostrider
Julia
Thanks Ghostrider - I'll have a look at the links.I do think it's a local copy and not on any server. I will have to double check. Our IT guy is coming in tomorrow to run scans and repairs or something. He says I have a 5% chance of retrieving anything. He says all the mail is stored as data into one folder. But this data has been corrupted now, and because I can't "rebuild it" I most likely won't be able to fix it.I just don't understand - 1 min it's all OK and the next minute I've got an error message and my application is stuffed.Sigh Jules Edited March 28, 2006 by Julia

The Mvps.org might be the best place to visit. (copy the mail folder before attempting any recovery)
