what if you have win xp pro sp2 cd already and other q's

Recommended Posts

Ok, for all of the unattended installs they mention to slipstream service packs. Well I have already a retail windows xp pro sp2 cd. Do I just totally skip the slipstream service pack sections and move on to the rest?

Now regarding installing apps. How do you register them so durring the uninstall they don't install as trial or demo or anything? Like apps that require serial numbers how do you do this or is it possible? It'd be nice to install all my apps without me ever needing to enter in serial numbers etc after the windows unattended install was done.

1/ Yes

2/ each app behave differently. most of the time, it's a registry setting to import before or after the installation ; sometimes (eg msi installers) the serial can be passed to the installer via commandline ; sometimes it's a file to backup & copy in the app directory...

You can use RegShot to track registry & disk changes when you entrer the serial, and save the result.

Or you can tell the forum wich app you use, maybe someone will help you better...

Thanks a lot Delprat.

So far I'm just reading a how to guide about this from a web site that gets really into it for advanced users and all that. It's got beginners section etc, but does seem to have a lot of stuff. They linked here so I thought this would be a good time to ask about the SP2 thing I asked about.

I have not read much or anything yet so I'm not sure how to do this stuff totally. What I would like to do is create an unattended install that will have all newest drivers for my hardware, windows update fixes for everything and certain programs and maybe even a game so I won't have to install anything at all. This unattended install would have all the stuff I always use and would go on a dvd.

Apps would be like Office 2003 pro with Outlook set up for my email account if possible and Word, so Outlook and Word would be the only things installed, a default install is also ok if needed, mcafee the newest virus program and its related update since comcast gives this away free. I'd want all possible video/Audio codecs needed. I'd want apple itunes/quicktime, tunebite, yahoo music engine, Nero, Acronis 8.0, newest firefox at the time with adblock extension along with fasterfox extension and now this new ad block auto updater list thingy that has tons of stuff it comes pre configured for to block ads etc. dvd decryptor, opera newest version, winrar and quickpar, daemon tools, some design cad stuff, adobe acrobat reader the newest, flash for web browsing, and then possible Age Of Empires 3 with update. Also in firefox and IE I'd want some bookmarks in there too.

That's about all I could think of.
