Arvetus
Hi. I have a couple of mobile clients on my network. Windows Server 2003 SBE is the Server OS, clients are XP SP2, Outlook 2003. In the office, everything works fine, however when they are mobile and connect up over the VPN (the standard VPN client built into Windows), everything works except for Outlook. Drives, printers, accounting software, it's all fine. But Outlook hangs on the "Trying to connect" on the lower right.
cluberti
Open outlook from a command prompt with the /rpcdiag switch to make sure RPC communications between Outlook and the Exchange server are working. If not, it's likely that a device along the way (usually firewall or VPN server) is blocking port 135 at the least, with causes RPC to fail. You can always configure Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003 to do RPC over HTTP as well.
