Hi Guys,

Im trying to add a unique indentifier to a Windows XP SOE. The issue im having is that once an SOE is sent out for distribution our state support staff modify it. Now when we report on it using SMS, they all report as the original SOE.

What i want to do is have a unique ID that if the SOE is tampered with and resaved, then SMS will report that it is non standard.

Have thought about registry entries, but if they save the image without touching the registry entry it will report as the correct SOE.

Any ideas?

I'm not certain this is really doable - what kind of modifications do you find happen often that would bother your SOE?

Mainly installation of software, modification of GUI etc, addition of minor registry tweaks. But still changing the SOE none the less.

Maybe some sort of CRC or something. Mmmm not sure.

If you're using group policy, most settings can be locked down at the GPO level, but still locking the machine down entirely will be an ordeal. Something 3rd party can help, but it might be costly per seat to license for a large enterprise.

This will probably end up being a cost vs benefit thing, ultimately.
