Event ID: 8284 - Recipient Update Service

Iam getting the following warning message in my event logs on my exchange serverv

Event ID: 8284

'The Recipient Update Service could not find the Address List Root which is located in the Exchange Service entry under the attribute addressBookRoots. This might have been caused by a permissions problem. '

Im gettinga bout 4 of these messages every minute. They started happening after i added in two servers as Recipient Update Services.

The user action suggested in windows help is 'Check the server permissions using ADSIEdit or LDAP support tools that are available on the Windows 2000 compact disc. Check to see if the server has access to CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=Services, CN=Configuration, DC=..... Verify that the Recipient Update Service has been configured to use the correct domain controller/global catalog.'

I have loades ADSIEdit but im not really sure on what i should be looking for in there so if anyone has any ideas on it that would help me out! thanks!!

What DC is your RUS configuration looking for? If it points to a DC it can't find or is offline, you will get this exact behavior.

User Action

Check the server permissions using ADSIEdit or LDAP support tools that are available on the Windows 2000 compact disc. Verify that the Recipient Update Service has been configured to use the correct domain controller/global catalog.

The Recipient Update Service had an incorrect domain controller listed. We had removed a Win2k domain controller and the Recipient Update Service (Enterprise Configuration) and (Domain) had the old controller listed. The fix was to go into exchange system manager, Recipients, Recipient Update Services, properties on the Recipient Update Service (Enterprise Configuration) and change the domain controller to a valid domain controller. Then right click and rebuild. This has to be done for the local domain as well.
