[Question ] Help setting up a wireless network for folder sharing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I got a new laptop yesterday, and it works on the internet fine. I booted it up, went through all the bits and bobs and clicked on the wireless connection icon and low and behold, there was my wireless connection. Clicked that, it connected and everything is great. No problem here - internet is FINE!

But I want to be able to access folders on my main computer (the one with the access point).

How would I go about doing this?

Many thanks

Hi,

You probably have to put both comps in the same workgroup/domain, create a shared folder on your main computer and then connect with your laptop

Unfortunately this doesn't work. On my laptop I go onto My Network Places, click on Entire Workgroup (it takes a long time to access, which I thought was strange) then my workgroup, and nothing. It comes up with an error message, something about not having permission etc, but basically it doesn't work

If you are using firewalls on your machines, you should put the IP address of your laptop into your desktop's 'Trusted Zone' in the firewall settings. And vice-versa.

Once done, your machines should start talking to eachother.

This is what I had to do, to get file sharing going anyway.
