[HELP] URGENT - XP Pro upgrade from XP Home hangs

I own two lisences for XP Pro SP2 that I got as a student at CMU for $15 each... I have never used either...

When trying to work out some networking issues, I decided to upgrade my XP home box to pro...

the upgrade went fine until the "setting up network" step, where the setup hung all night.... I tried restarting and it hung there again.

I tried switching to the other disk, thinking "scratched?", but it hung in the exact same place.

I tried unplugging my network and going again, but got no change.

Any Ideas?

if I can't get this upgrade to complete, is there a way to rescue "my documents" and my desktop before putting a new install over it?

PLEASE HELP ME, I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE!

Use the User State Migration Tool to back up documents / settings to a USB key or network location, and then use the same tool to restore after a clean install.

You can connect the HD to another PC as slave and backup your folder.

thanks I decided to go the route of instlling xp pro in a new directory, and giving myself ownership of all the old files
