registry help!

My computer had been infected with the worm alcan, which spybot, ad=aware se, and counterspy could not get rid off. So i searched fora amanual way on the internet.

I was advised to delete the following keys and some others.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>OLE

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>OLE

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>System>CurrentControlSet>Control>Lsa

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>System>CurrentControlSet>Control>Lsa

Which i did delete without a abackup

I have windows 2000sp4 withall the latest winupdates

Now my satrup bar show only volume and programs like counter spy dont launch at start up and show up there

And my network and dialup connection window in control panel is always blank even though i have a connection and can connect to the internet.

For the time being i have just created registrys with the names of the deleted ones(Lsa and OLE)

Please help get system back to nowmal

The results you are seeing are because you deleted the OLE key and it's contents - you either need to restore the OLE and LSA keys from a backup (your Windows 2000 machine or another at the same SP level), or do a repair install to get them back. Just creating the keys will do nothing.

In the future when AdAware/Spybot/etc says it can't get rid of a file...try again in Safe Mode.

Thanks but none of my friends have 2000sp4 but i do have the installation cd. Do any of youi guys have windows 2000sp4?

I have a 2000 SP4+URP1 box - again, I can post the reg here but it may or may not work for you (you REALLY aren't supposed to delete those keys, they can be machine-specific).

If the attached .reg doesn't work, you will have to use your CD to do a repair installation.
