fdv Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 hi folks!i am wondering if 2003 and xp support the same devices/have the same driver set on cd.let me clarify by explaining what i am doing.i am building a server that will have 2003 on it.i am going to put an LSI DC-390U3 scsi controller in it with 2 scsi drives. i know that windows xp has drivers for this card and recognizes it automatically upon install. i want to transplant the controller card into this new machine i am building and want 2003 to recognize it, because there aren't any 2003 drivers on the manufacturer's website.*i could make a bartpe of 2003 to test but it's a waste if one of you folks know the answer, and i have no doubt that someone here does, msfn has a lot of 2003 experts.thanks for any help...fdvAdditional details for the 2003 wizards who might need this info, I don't know if its relevant*okay, for those of you who want to reply on this point, i didnt want to get into this in the body of the question, but here it is. the manufacturers, LSI and Tekram, have a driver for "2000 and xp." i tested the driver in a 2003 virtual machine and it gave me an error saying that the INF was bad because it had a "line missing" (which one? didn't say) and was due to the driver being for "windows 95 or later" even though the INF had the $Windows NT$ signature string, not $chicago$. however, i have a BartPE made from winXP laying around. i stuck this cd in the machine the scsi controller is in right now, and it booted right up and recognized the controller and drives. so, i know for sure that the microsoft driver on the install cd for xp works fine. i have not tested the manufacturer-provided xp driver in xp, however. it should be noted that the MS and manufacturer drivers are, in fact, different.
nmX.Memnoch Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 (edited) Generally if Windows XP has built in drivers for a SCSI controller then Server 2003 does as well. Server 2003, being a newer operating system than XP, should have more built-in drivers than XP does. However, if it doesn't then the XP driver you downloaded should work. I even have a Promise SuperTrak100 in a Server 2003 box using the Windows 2000 driver because Promise pretty much dropped support for that controller. It's been running that way for years without issue.Edit:It turns out that Tekram does list a Server 2003 driver on their site (page 2 of the DC-390 drivers), however the file isn't on the server. http://www.tekram.com/downloads/Storage/SC...323/Win2003.zipYou could probably email them to get the driver.
