For making ISOs I normally suggest a burning program like Nero or Alcohol. What you're trying to do is copy media from an optical drive onto a harddisk for backups and emulation. I suggest you grab a copy of ISOBuster(I use an old version that doesn't need registration), extract the CD image as RAW content in .iso format. I think you'll like the result.
