wognum Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Well, nLite says my Windows XP installation just got 300 mb smaller. However, when i open explorer, and right-click in on the WINNT dir -> Properties, it looks like my WinXP got slightly bigger..?how is this possible?

wognum Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 did you use this on your acuall WINNT directory? if you could eplain exactly the steps you took we can try to help thanksi only have one i installed nlite & the .NET framework 2.0. after that i only removed useless stuff, about 300 mb, nlite said (which could be true, dont know, i did not count ).the size of the winnt dir before was 1.16 gb. the size after is 1.19. thats 300 mb bigger, isnt it?however, when i run nlite again, the things i removed, arent there anymore..
Scrapple Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 ....????Wasn't nLite meant to make a original XP cd "smaller" or adapt (i.e. integrate stuff, remove components, etc....)I'm not sure, but I don't think it will work on an already installed system, which you actually seem to try.BTW 1.16 -> 1.19GB is 30 MB, not 300MB.
trickytwista Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 you nlited your already installed windows, wont work...... use nlite with your cd or image off hdd..
eyeball Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 maybe you should read the unattended guide to get an understanding of how to create an unattended cd, what nlite does is basically make this process a whole lot easier
saugatak Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 ROFLMAO. Take your WinXP CD and copy i386 directory on to your hard drive and then use nLite to integrate SP2 and post-SP2 hotfixes and then remove stuff you don't like.I'd also recommend using HFSLIP which I like better than nLite to integrate latest hotfixes into your nLited CD.Just click on HFSLIP logo on my signature to find out.You should also read the excellent instructions. You'll find 'em at nliteos.com.
wognum Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) okay! so basically this program was made to create a winxp setup cd... i thought i could strip down winxp ;(well this nlite is quite useless to me since i still dont have a cd-rom-burning-thing Edited January 31, 2006 by wognum
