sidefx Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Is there a way to fix this error without formatting?I have put my xp cd in and went to system recovery. I didn't do anything besides type exit and reboot and it gets me back into windows. The error has happened 3 times so far today.I checked my boot.ini file and it shows 1 partition. I have one physical drive but 4 partitions. Windows XP Pro is the only OS installed.I have scanned my pc for viruses and for malware.Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on.--Zxian
Zxian Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 When you're at the recovery console, can you expand the hal.dl_ file that's on the CD to the system32 folder?expand D:\i386\hal.dl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\hal.dllPlease try to be more specific with the error that you're getting in future. It makes it a lot easier for us to know exactly what you're talking about.
cluberti Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) That's not a very good idea - hal.dl_ on the CD is a non-ACPI hal. He should really determine (from the properties of the hal.dll installed on his system) what the internal name of his hal.dll is, and expand THAT .dll file out to the Windows directory as hal.dll.Otherwise, a good idea Edited December 21, 2005 by cluberti
