Tomcat76 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I've been searching around on the Internet to see what shell replacements are being offered. So far, though, I've only found fancy/gimmicky stuff with lots of bloat.I'd like to know if there's something "formal" that looks exactly like the shell that exist on Windows 2000 (including Desktop, toolbars and icons), and can be used on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP. "My Computer" must still exist as I don't like to use "Windows Explorer" or anything that looks like it. About the only improvements over the default Windows 2000 capabilities I'd consider is the clock enhancements (seconds, week number, etc.) that TClockEx offers, and an easier way of adding/removing the default Desktop icons (like on WinXP).
-I- Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 there isn't realy any - though - if you realy want it, there might be a way to uses windows NT4's version (which doesn't have Active Desktop yet), or you could use ROSexplorer (which isn't realy that stable), but both arn't realy an option, (not in my point of vieuw anyway).....
Tomcat76 Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Thanks for the reply.I don't use Active Desktop, but the icons are really important; they have to be the ones from Win2K/ME.ROS Explorer... Looking at the screenshot, it's clear why it's still "a work in progress". It looks promising but it's not usable at this stage. If you must know:- missing "Start" button- no (visible) "My Computer" equivalent- uses its own icons- text in menus is misaligned with respect to the icons (too high)- there's extra space at the top of each Start Menu's submenu, containing a small button in the top right corner
