Introducing Myself

I am not a Windows systems administrator and I really don't have any interest in creating an unattended slipstream CD at this point in time.

Why I came to the MSFN forum

I came to this forum after I found out that Microsoft's "Update Catalog" web site wasn't working properly for me. If someone is interested in the problem I encountered then you can read about here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.p...b233bcea25b534f

My Plan

* Download "RyanVM's Post-SP2 Update Pack" and extract the contents of the CAB file.

* I noticed that forum member Incroyable HULK has 7 hotfixes that are not on RyanVM's list (see below). I plan on downloading them as well.

* After downloading all the hotfixes I will manually install them to three different Windows XP operating systems.

* Final step is check the Windows Update website after applying the hotfixes.

My Question

Is this a reasonable plan of of action for someone who currently isn't interested in performing an unattended install?

Well, I just found out that my plan of action won't work.

I found the following entry at RyanVM's FAQ web page:

Can I install this on a running Windows XP installation?

Unfortunately, no. This pack was designed to be integrated into a Windows XP install CD so that it's up to date when Windows is installed. Other parties have made similar updates for updating an already-installed copy of Windows XP, including Autopatcher XP and s.p.a.m.net's Unofficial SP3 pack.

Looks like I found a solution to my problem!

After visiting several forums, I found a small program that is suppose to work with the "Windows Update" web site. The program takes control of the download process and saves the patches to a special folder on your hard drive. I haven't tried running this program yet, however, if it works as advertised then I won't have to download the updates again when I patch another PC with the same version of Windows running on it.

I go to windows update, find what it says I need. Then use

administator options to download the updates and save them

so I don't have to download them again.

I'll give WUtools a try
