And directly without rebooting i de-installed it. Now i rebooted my laptop. Now the internet connection works (still only with my cable)Then the next day i go to my work and gues what i couldn't connect to the network overthere. so again the whole thing, and it's working again.then back at my home, again the connection is not working i tried with changing my routers adress to 192.168.1.2 because @ my work the adress was the samecan anybody come up with a solution or an explanation
eyeball Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 (edited) could you explain a little better please, from what i understand you brought your laptop home and cant connect to the internet with it, is this right?if so check it doesnt have a static ip, open command prompt and type ipconfig and check if DHCP is enabled if it isnt then go to the network settings and properties of the device and then to the TCP/IP properties and tick "obtain ip address automatically" Edited November 9, 2005 by eyeball
sparkie_be Posted November 10, 2005 Author Posted November 10, 2005 when i bring my laptop @ home i cannot get on the internet or network, but i get a ip. everything is set to automatic then the only way to get on the internet is install tcp/ip version 6 an deinstall it and reboot.but then i cannot get on the networ and internet from my work again.
eyeball Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 hi sparkie_be do you know what DHCP is? im not trying to undermine you if you do but if you dont please read below:it basically gives you an IP address automatically, so to check if your laptop has DHCP on or off do the following to check:control panel -> network connections -> right click on local area connection -> properties -> TCP/IP -> propertiesif "obtain an IP address automatically" is highlighted then DHCP is onif there is an IP in there then it has been manually entered and therefore DHCP is offok now the problem:in order to get around this try giving your laptop the IP 192.168.1.103 this should bring you onto your networknow try to "ping" another machine if you can then you know you have a connection, if not check firewalls they often block pingsnow try to ping beyond the internal range of (192.168.1.x) e.g your isp's dns servers or a website and see if you get a replyhope this helps you out
rendrag Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 One evening i brought my laptop from my work @ home and i set everthing up, i received an ip-adress but i can't ping to anywhere els but the own network card ip. the PC is still running smoothlyDid you try pinging the default gateway?i tried with changing my routers adress to 192.168.1.2 because @ my work the adress was the sameyou could try a completely different IP address range for the network at home, maybe something like 10.0.0.1 for the router's IP. Then you'd have to reboot both computers (or release and renew the IP addresses of the connected computers)
