Failed Win XP UPdates

Recently, all attempts to install XP updates result in failure. Any ideas?

provide more info... how are you trying to apply the updates? what error message do you get... ect

Auto and manual update installs all fail. Here's the error message.

Have you tried downloading the updates from the microsoft site directly? Do a search at microsoft.com for KBXXXXXX (where the X's are the update number) for the downloads. Save them to your hard drive, and then run them.

OK. UPdate is working again but I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know which fix did it. I tried 7 or 8 and after so many reboots lost track of which fixed the problem.
