  1. Two are Seagate GoFlex TV Media Players and the third is a Micca EP350G. My home is Ethernet wired and the media players simply connect to my network via their Ethernet ports. Let me know if you need more info.
  2. Sure can. Opening my media player with W7 active, a screen appears giving me the option to connect to my network/workgroup/"my computer" and result is Logon Successful and my shared drive appears. No log on screen with W7. W8 gives me the same options but network/workgroup/"my computer" always opens a log on screen that will not accept any combination of ID and password. Please understand I have exhausted all combinations. All I'm asking for is W8 to match W7's bypassing the log on screen.
  3. Trying out W8.1 Pro on my dual boot system. W7 Ultimate x64 is primary. I don't use my system for anything exotic. In addition to the everyday chores, I use it extensively to view videos via three ethernet wired media players installed in my living room and two bedrooms. It took me a while but I was able to get Windows 7 security requirements tamed and it permits me to view videos from my shared drive without having to deal with the DREADED "NetUser ID & Net Password" requirement. Simply clicking on "Workgroup/My Computer on my media players gives me a "Logon Successful" message and I'm off to the races. W8.1 Pro is another matter. After three weeks of trying every conceivable security setting, workarounds and suggestions from other forums, I have surrendered. It beat me. No matter what I did to get a "Logon Successful" message after going through the "NetUser ID & Net Password" input, no happiness. And yes, I tried every possible combination of ID and password unsuccessfully. Nothing was able to get around it. I don't use HOMEGROUP simply becaue this is the only computer connected. Ideal would be as I have with Windows 7....no "NetUser ID & Net Password" screen. There are dozens of others experiencing the same problem. Just Google "NetUser ID & Net Password" . So, here I am. Before I dump W8.1 Pro and stay with W7 forever, any ideas anybody/Microsoft? Suggest something and I'll try if I haven't already tried it.
  4. I like having the "Computer" icon on the taskbar. So far, I haven't been able to pin it to the taskbar. Dragging it tells me it will be pinned to the explorer and I haven't been able to unpin it from the explorer and pin to the taskbar. Any ideas?
  5. In looking at the "Create Image" feature in Windows 7, it appears that one cannot create an image of the © boot drive only. When testing it, I found that it gives you no choice but to create images of all drives which have an OS installed. For my part, I'd prefer to be able to image based on my choice of drives. Comments?
  6. Can anyone identify Error 9216 burn failure?
  7. That was my experience with the beta and the RC, but haven't tried the RTM. I remember the trick was knowing what to keep, or it wouldn't work....can't remember what was essential to keep though. Where do you add the IE8.msu?
  8. I found this site offering Windows updates. http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html
  9. I seem to recall a Microsoft website that offered manual downloads of their updates. Does anyone know if this still exists and the website address?
  10. I'm new to vLite and been successful in slipstreaming SP-1 and adding drivers to the ISO. My question is where do I get "hotfixes"? Are they a download or do I get them individually from Microsoft?
  11. Thanks neo. My disk reported the SP1 build as 6.0.6001.18000.
  12. Just finished slipstreaming SP1 to Home Premium. How can I confirm that SP1 was in fact added? I see nothing to indicate SP1 is there as I did with XP service packs.
  13. geek, Looks like I'll be downloading SP1. None of the others apply. Thank you
  14. Running Ultimate on almost new Dell XPS720 and still haven't received the SP1 update via Windows Update. When I run update, it tells me my PC is up to date. Checking Computer/System, doesn't indicate SP1 has been installed. I have update set to alert me when updates are available. My memory may be off but vaguely recall seeing somewhere that update looks for certain files to be installed before update is possible. Any suggestions?
  15. Running Vista Home Premium which came installed on My Dell XPS One. Bought an upgrade disk to get Vista Ultimate but no can do. Get this messge when trying to install: "Upgrade as been disabled. The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more recent than the version you are curently running". What am I missing here? The disk doesn't give me an option to choose to choose Ultimate. Could it be because I'm running Dell's OEM version of Vista?
  16. OK. UPdate is working again but I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know which fix did it. I tried 7 or 8 and after so many reboots lost track of which fixed the problem. Thanks to all.
  17. Auto and manual update installs all fail. Here's the error message.
  18. Recently, all attempts to install XP updates result in failure. Any ideas?
