teslas Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Help! I have a dell laptop (pentium 3) that I do not have the CD drive for. I would like to re-install Windows XP or 2k , but i don't know how to do it without a CD drive? If i obtained and booted the computer with a USB Cd drive and the Windows xp/2k cd in the drive, would the system notice a usb device and then install the OS from the USB drive? IF I can't use the drive, what other method am I stuck with to re-install windows? Thanks guys!
Takeshi Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 If the BIOS supports booting from USB drive then it should work.I don't know about the older DELLs but the newer ones seem to support network boot.
