installing an OS without a CD drive

Help!

I have a dell laptop (pentium 3) that I do not have the CD drive for. I would like to re-install Windows XP or 2k , but i don't know how to do it without a CD drive?

If i obtained and booted the computer with a USB Cd drive and the Windows xp/2k cd in the drive, would the system notice a usb device and then install the OS from the USB drive?

IF I can't use the drive, what other method am I stuck with to re-install windows?

Thanks guys!

If the BIOS supports booting from USB drive then it should work.

I don't know about the older DELLs but the newer ones seem to support network boot.
