Share folders/Drives in office/home network with XP on all machines

Featured Replies

Here is my setup:

Router: Linksys WRT54GS Wireless

4 PCs Connected/Wired

Task:

On one PC which is essentially my home/office server I want to shared 4 hard drives within this PC (excludes the c:/ drive) to my main workstation.

What I have done:

I have ran the so simple network wizard on both PCs independently. On the "server" have right clicked >> properties >> clicked share tab and allowed sharing on network.

Now on my main workstation how the heck do I tell it to find this server with the shared drives/folders?

Yes all XP pro. Doing your suggestion now.

Just another note - You can edit the permissions for each share from the security tab in the folder/drive properties.

Another option for you would be to create a shortcut to a particular computer. Enter \\<name_of_computer> as the target and if all connections and settings are proper, you should be able to connect directly to that computer.

Where exactly is this setting? Can't find it under any properties of the drive.

Ah... forgot to mention that you'll probably have to disable simple file sharing.

Uncheck the circled box (it's kinda hard to see with my theme).

And to anyone who asks... that was done on a touchpad...so bite me...;)
