darksimoon Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 hi friends i have a suggestion which i believe it will be usefull for us. as you know we make a collection of registry tweak and publish it in a sticky section. eveyrthings ok up to here but we can use these registry tweaks just for the current user. for the people who wants to apply these for all users(=at T12 stage from cmdline.txt), we have to change its structure. why not make another "reg tweak.txt" file for this stage ? i need such a section for it seemed to me that making a regtweak proper for T12 stage is so complicated.thanks in advance
Yzöwl Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I'm sorry, I fail to understand! All registry data for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE applies to all users at T13 /T12Most registry data for HKEY_CURRENT_USER applies to all users at T13 /T12The majority of problems with the latter appear to be with changes to visual settings, which in the main should be left to each individual users preference anyhow. Therefore one single registry file applied at T13 /T12 will fulfil most of the needs of the majority.
darksimoon Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 hi friend the thing i dont understand about registry tweak is that;some people chance HKEY_CURRENT_USER to HKEY_USERS_DEFAULT since there is no KEY_CURRENT_USER at the T12 stage. even one of the member has told that when you press F10 during installation you'll see USERPROFILE=DEFAULTUSER. its ok up to here. i can understand. on the other hand, some prefers to load the NTUSER.dat which resides at "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User" at T12 stage after making all registry chances to default user at win32 environment.i cant decide which way to follow. and now you're saying that its enough to apply all registry tweak at T12 stage, it applies to all user except for visual settings. i am puzzled if so ok. this is easier than the ones above.meanwhile another question i wanna ask is, if the reg tweaks applied at T12 stage effects to all users and if the curent user gets its structure from default user, why shall we apply it at win 32 environment for current user ? wouldnt be enough to apply reg tweaks at T12 stage ?i am confused please clear what i misunderstand or show me a waythanks in advance.
matthewk Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 That's the impression I was under too. Of course, I'm still learning, and I don't have my reg file and such working the way I need/want it to yet. I had changed all the current user ones to default user like darksimoon questioned. I'd like to hear one of the experienced users here with this shed some understandable light on this please
MHz Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 (edited) This is how I find that it works at T12.All HKLM tweaks go to HKLM. (All User Profile)Most HKCU tweaks go to HKU. (Default User Profile)The HKCU tweaks that do not exist in the default profile already may not be accepted and need to be added when a user is logged on (User Profile). Personal settings are the ones that seem to be rejected.I recommend that you should not and do not need to change a registry files structure for what can already be done currently.Edit:Here is a picture to show how I added some environment variables (Desktop & SendTo) at T12 for HKCU\Environment but were redirected and created in HKU\.DEFAULT\Environment by the system.
